More Than a Ride — It’s a Movement.
Black Bike Week MN is a celebration of Black cycling history, health, culture, and freedom. Rooted in Minneapolis–Saint Paul and reaching across the state, it’s a powerful week of joy, resistance, and community.
Founded by Anthony Taylor—one of Minnesota’s leading cycling advocates—this movement honors our past, celebrates our present, and builds the road to a more just, inclusive future.
🌍 Why It Matters
Black Bike Week MN sits at the intersection of:
-
Health & Wellness
-
Mobility & Transportation Equity
-
Climate Action
-
Cultural Expression
-
Economic Empowerment
During Black August, a month dedicated to remembrance and resistance, we reclaim space, amplify joy, and ride together for liberation and lasting impact.

Our History on Two Wheels
From the 25th Infantry Bicycle Corps in the 1890s, to Major Taylor's 1899 world championship, and Nelson Vails' 1984 Olympic triumph, the bike has always been more than transportation—it’s been a path to dignity, power, and progress.
“Black Bike Week is the physical embodiment of Black August—movement, memory, and a collective push toward freedom. When we ride, we ride for our health, our history, our joy, and our future.” - Anthony Taylor
